ABOUT ME

It me. Seems.

First off I would love to just welcome & thank you for visiting my new website!

A little about me, I'm a Mexican-American woman who is a product of the Rio Grande Valley and has dedicated a few years of her life trying to spread the message of community & supporting local business.
My parents come from Reynosa, Tamaulipas, and came to the Unites States with a dream of a better and safe life for my older brother and I. I owe who I am and what I am becoming to them and to this choice they made.
I sometimes feel that being optimistic in a place full of such turmoil is frowned upon, especially because I'm a light skinned woman, but growing up with nothing to my name, in extreme poverty, and sometimes depending on food stamps to get by, really has shown me that we make our own journey, we create our own future, and I am grateful for who the Valley has molded me to be. Someone who DOES THINGS.
I used to write a food-blog called The RGV Foodster, which I would say was a huge success considering the lack of love I've been able to give it over the years. From writing about local food, i learned to love local people. I have met the most talented, and kind hearted human beings in my area, and after a while, only sharing food made my heart hurt.
I want to share everything I go through, because my story is unique. Our area, is so unique, every single one of our stories tells of adversity, and of resilience.
I am, for the first time in my life, trying to make more of myself, and this wouldnt be possible without the hard times, and the people who have helped me get by.

I struggle, but am inspired every day by the heart and soul of valley musicians, entrepreneurs, hustlers, dreamers, shakers, and doers. I love fashion, food, music, writing, reading, singing, & trying new things. Despite years of people telling me their wasn't much to do here in the Valley, I persist there is. That is what this blog is about. The events to love, the experiences I have, the people I have them with, and those who refuse to let a negative narrative dictate their future. My life is one big blessing, because I have the ability to work hard for it & I want my readers to do the same. We create. We fail. We continue until we don't. That's what The RGV Seems The Blog is truly about, what keeps us together, and why we don't fall apart.
